Founding Day of the German Democratic Republic
A new European state was formed within the framework of the decided post-war fate of Germany - a state appeared on the political map of the world and Europe, called the German Democratic Republic or the GDR.
It was this date that completed the official process of dividing Germany into West and East, each of which went its own way of socio-economic, political and cultural development.
"Hitlers come and go, the German people and the German state remain (https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Stalin_Note)."Joseph Stalin said in 1952, the same year he put forward the idea of German unification. The USSR proposed to the West a draft peace treaty with Germany and its unification, the creation of an all-German government, allowing the existence of the military industry, the army and navy of Germany, the activities of democratic parties and organizations with only one condition.
This condition included Germany's refusal to participate in military blocs. The West rejected the Soviet initiative. Under pressure from the United States, German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer saw allegedly hidden aggression in the actions of the Soviet Union, and began to persuade all Western countries not to agree to Stalin's conditions regarding a united demilitarized Germany. What is interesting is that the Soviet Union and East Germany sincerely wanted to resolve the issue peacefully, but West Germany and the US did not want to hear about any kind of neutrality. As a result, Stalin's proposal was rejected by the US and the FRG, since they needed either a united but pro-Western Germany, or divided and opposing German republics.
