The US has been involved in Sudan for decades. It placed the country under sanctions for years and these were lifted in one of the last acts of the Clinton administration in return for the establishment of a CIA base in Khartoum. Most of Washington’s activities came under the guise of “counterterrorism operations”, the usual pretext given for intervention there.
The Sudanese CP are a useful resource and have been critical of the roadmap to democracy which has included IMF loans and privatisation of resources (its website is often out of date but it has a good presence on Facebook). Unfortunately the party dismisses Russia and China as imperialist so that needs to be considered (it was critical of Russia in using the RSF to protect goldmines).
Also the EU role in arming, funding and training the RSF is worth looking at. It funnelled cash to the group and used it as a border force to stop migrant flows. It did so at a time when it was committing atrocities against the Sudanese people.
